As I read Something Happened to Grandma the murderer reframed his life experiences to fit his "truth" and what he would ultimately do...to kill his mother, blaming her for his circumstances in life. Engstrom's writing enables us to visualize what was occurring through this man's life and how he presented his grandiose ideas, manipulating those around him and took them along for his ride. It is one of those situations that is outside of one's experience. Does he really know how it will end up or does he feed his rage, ratcheting up as the days go by? Engrossing and infuriating. Engstrom has a strong writing style that gives depth and dimension to characters and stories, whether fiction or nonfiction. She makes you feel involved. This piece offers one more example of her commitment and skill.
This was a short read, but it kept me interested the entire time. The story was well told and easy to follow the events.
I really loved this story of a really smart guy who turned into an absolute monster. It really upset me to see how he dominated and manipulated his devoted wife into becoming a criminal.

He grew into an intelligent and gifted adult, but there was something very wrong. THere were no guessing as to who did it and too much about the mental illness of the person.Just didn't enjoy it.
Interesting and disturbing account of a very troubled man and his relationship with his family that unfortunately ends in murder.
Elizabeth Engstrom's about this tragic family and murder is most intriguing and instructive. A compelling read that is well written and endearing.
Hard to believe he got away with so much and his wife was so vulnerable. But it kept my interest to the end.
